Dr. Phyllis Pipitone Cox's Bequest Follows Her Strong Spirit of Jesuit Education for Others

Dr. Phyllis Pipitone Cox's Bequest Follows Her Strong Spirit of Jesuit Education for Others

During WWII, Phyllis served in the Women's Army Corps as a Technical Sergeant. She was also an accomplished pianist and studied music at McGill University, Northwestern University and Peabody Conservatory of Music. Later in life, Phyllis earned her PhD in Psychology and became a published author. As an expert in dream psychology, she counseled individuals on the therapy of dreams in her private practice and lectured internationally on parapsychology.

Phyllis always wanted the best for her children. Her son Dan '71, recalls, "Phyllis was a very educated, sophisticated and intellectual woman. She was not a milk and cookies mom." Education was very important to her, and when Walsh Jesuit opened its doors in 1965, she enrolled son Dan in the class of '71 and later son Paul '74 at the school. Dan says that Walsh Jesuit provided "the best education I've ever had."

Phyllis valued the Catholic, Jesuit education and what it did for her boys. Over the years, Phyllis consistently supported Walsh Jesuit with gifts to the annual fund. She also made plans to remember Walsh Jesuit High School in her will. Because of her thoughtful bequest, students today are receiving the gift of a Jesuit education, and the tools to go out and live as men and women for others.

The gift from Dr. Phyllis Pipitone Cox not only pays tribute to the school that gave her sons so much but also ensures that Walsh Jesuit will continue to provide the very best in Catholic, Jesuit education for young men and women in Northeast Ohio.
